Quick Answer
Riftbound is the official League of Legends trading card game, published by UVS Games and available in Australia since October 2025. As of mid-2026, four sets have been released or announced: Origins (October 2025), Spiritforged (February 2026), Unleashed (May 2026), and Vendetta (July 2026). For a new player, the right first purchase is a Champion Deck at AU$39.99 RRP, which gets you a complete 56-card ready-to-play deck built around a specific champion. What Is Riftbound?
Riftbound is built around the champions and world of League of Legends. Each game is a two-player match where you choose a Legend (your champion card), build a 40-card deck plus a 12-card Rune deck, and try to reduce your opponent's Nexus to zero health through attacking with Units, casting Spells, and deploying Gear.
The game was reviewed positively on launch for being accessible to newcomers while offering genuine tactical depth. Champions each play very differently, meaning the game rewards learning your chosen champion rather than memorising the entire card pool. For new players, this is useful because it means your focus is narrow from the start.
Riftbound launched in China in August 2025 under the name Rune Battlegrounds, followed by the global English release in October 2025. Australia is part of the global English release, meaning product arrives on the same schedule as the US and UK. Prerelease events called Pre-Rifts run at local game stores before each set launch, and Nexus Nights are the ongoing weekly casual play events.
The Four Sets Released in 2026
Origins (October 2025) is the foundational set. It introduced 27 founding champions including Viktor, Jinx, Lee Sin, Ahri, Caitlyn, Darius, and Yasuo, with a base set of 298 cards plus Overnumbered variants. Origins is where starter products live and is still the correct entry point for new players. Three Champion Decks launched with Origins: Viktor, Jinx, and Lee Sin. Spiritforged (February 2026) is the second set. It added 221 new cards and 12 new champions including Azir, Irelia, Draven, Lucian, Rumble, Fiora, Ezreal, and Jax. Fiora is the only returning champion from Origins, meaning the rest were all new. Spiritforged also introduced equipment cards that let you enhance your Units. Champion Decks for Rumble and Fiora launched alongside the set. See current Spiritforged prices at /cards/riftbound/sets/spiritforged.
Unleashed (May 8, 2026) is the current set. It added 219 cards and introduced new champions including Vi, Vex, Diana, Master Yi, Kha'Zix, and LeBlanc. Three new mechanics launched with this set: XP (a resource you build and spend for advantages), Ambush, and Hunt. Champion Decks for Vi and Vex are available at AU$39.99 RRP. Each Unleashed Champion Deck contains 56 cards (40 main deck, 1 Legend, 12 Runes, 3 Battlefields), a paper playmat, how-to-play guide, deck box, and a booster pack. Vendetta (July 31, 2026) is the fourth set, confirmed for simultaneous global release in English, Italian, Japanese, and Chinese. It features Akali, Mel, and Ambessa, plus Showdown Decks pitting Zed against Shen.
What to Buy First
A Champion Deck is the right first purchase for most new players. At AU$39.99 RRP, you get a complete, ready-to-play deck with a specific champion as your Legend. Origins Champion Decks (Viktor, Jinx, Lee Sin) are a solid starting point if you want the foundational set. Unleashed Champion Decks (Vi and Vex) are the current option if you want to start with the newest mechanics.
Proving Grounds is the two-to-four player starter box, originally priced at AU$39.99 RRP. It contains four preconstructed decks around Annie, Master Yi, Lux, and Garen. Note that as of early 2026, Origins Proving Grounds had sold out at retail and a reprint was confirmed but without a release date. Check availability at your local game store or eBay before hunting online.
Booster packs are for experienced players chasing specific cards. Buying random packs as a beginner is the fastest way to spend money without building a playable collection. If you want specific singles, buying them directly is nearly always better value. Use the EV Calculator at /tools before opening any sealed product.

How Riftbound Actually Plays
Each game starts with both players placing their Legend in the Legend Zone, which is separate from the main deck. Your 40-card deck contains Units (creatures that fight), Spells (one-off effects), and Gear (equipment that powers up your Units). Your 12-card Rune deck functions as your mana system, providing resources each turn.
The game uses Domains, which are the equivalent of colours in MTG or energy types in Pokemon. Each champion is associated with specific Domains, and your deck is built primarily within those Domains. Riftbound is designed so that every Champion Legend is Rare (not Epic), meaning competitive play doesn't require chasing ultra-rare champion cards.

Where to Buy Riftbound in Australia
Local game stores are the right first stop. Vault Games in Brisbane and other AU retailers carry Riftbound sealed product and increasingly stock singles. Buying locally means you can inspect cards, start playing immediately, and support the scene that keeps Nexus Nights running.
Online AU retailers stock Champions Decks and Booster Boxes. Compare prices across stores before buying sealed product, since box prices vary.
eBay AU is a strong option for both singles and sealed, particularly for older Origins stock that has sold out at retail. Search current eBay AU Riftbound listings through the hub at /cards/riftbound.
The C3 Take
Riftbound is worth starting now, specifically because it is still early in Australia. The fourth set hasn't launched yet. The competitive scene is still being established. Local game stores are running weekly events. This combination, available product, active events, and a growing player base, is exactly the window that is worth entering before the game becomes established and prices climb accordingly. The Champions are the soul of the game. Pick one that matches how you want to play, buy the Champion Deck, and play a few games before you spend anything else. The game tells you what it needs after that.
