We opened four booster boxes of Lorcana Wilds Unknown to build the singles inventory at Cards on Cards on Cards. Same approach as our Riftbound opening: track everything, count it properly, report the result honestly.
The Numbers
Boxes opened: 4 Packs opened: 96 (24 packs per box) Expected cards at 12 per pack: 1,152 Cards listed as eBay singles: 1,077 Gap (non-listed inserts and art cards): 75 cards
The 75-card gap is smaller proportionally than Riftbound because Lorcana packs have fewer non-singles insert types. The gap is explained by art cards and promotional materials included in some packs.
Foil Breakdown
Total foil cards: 99 Total regular cards: 978 Expected foils from 96 packs (1 per pack guarantee): 96
We pulled 99 foils from 96 packs. That is three above the expected count, which is essentially exact. The Lorcana foil guarantee held perfectly.
Lorcana guarantees one foil slot per pack of any rarity. The foil can be a common, uncommon, rare, super rare, or Epic. This is different from Riftbound where foil versions exist as parallel prints across the whole set.
Epic Cards Pulled
Wilds Unknown Epics are Raised Foil versions of existing characters, numbered above 204 in this 204-card base set. We pulled 9 Epics across 96 packs, roughly 1 Epic per 10.7 packs.
| Card | Number |
|---|---|
| Edna Mode - Fashion Designer | 209 |
| Doc - Taking Notes | 210 (x2) |
| Buzz Lightyear - Space Ranger | 211 |
| Kida - Guardian of the Path | 217 |
| Bruno Madrigal - Oasis Oracle | 218 (x2) |
| Minnie Mouse - Practical Traveler | 219 |
| Pocahontas - Steadfast Traveler | 220 |
| Incrediboy - Buddy Pine | 221 |
Nine Epics across four boxes is a good result. The spread landed on some genuinely desirable characters: Edna Mode, Bruno, Kida, and Incrediboy are all popular. Buzz Lightyear as an Epic is a strong pull for Toy Story collectors.
Personal Observations Opening These Boxes
Opening Wilds Unknown feels different to earlier Lorcana sets. The Encanto cards have strong artwork. The Brave spread is wide enough that you get multiple Merida and family cards across a box. The Rescue Rangers section is a genuine nostalgia hit if you grew up with that show.
The Raised Foil treatment on Epics looks excellent in hand. The texture is noticeably different from standard foils and the cards have a quality feel that justifies their position as the set's premium chase cards.
The insert gap (75 cards not listed) was composed of art cards featuring character illustrations from the set. These are not gameplay-legal cards but they are visually appealing and worth keeping if you are a collector.
How This Compares to Riftbound
We opened both games' sets within the same sourcing cycle. A few observations:
Foil rate: Riftbound has a much higher foil rate (24.2% of listed cards) versus Lorcana (9.2%). Riftbound's parallel foil structure means more of the set is available in foil. Lorcana's foil guarantee means the foil you get per pack is guaranteed but limited.
Insert gap: Riftbound's 160-card gap (from 1,344 expected to 1,184 listed) is proportionally larger than Lorcana's 75-card gap (from 1,152 expected to 1,077 listed). Riftbound packs have more non-singles insert material.
Pull rate precision: Lorcana's foil guarantee meant our observed rate (99 from 96 packs) nearly perfectly matched expectation. Riftbound's guaranteed alternate arts (2 per box) also held exactly. Both games' stated guarantees proved accurate in our sample.
The Verdict
Four boxes of Lorcana Wilds Unknown delivered the full base set in good depth, 9 Epics at a rate consistent with published data, and a foil count that matched the per-pack guarantee exactly.
If you are opening Wilds Unknown for the singles market in Australia: four boxes gives you coverage across the full 204-card base set with strong foil representation. The Epic rate is the wildcard. We got 9, which is above-average luck across 96 packs.
