Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes releases on 26 June 2026 and is the largest IP crossover set in Magic's history by profile. Unlike the previous Marvel crossover (Spider-Man, 2025), this set covers the full breadth of Marvel heroes and villains and is the first Marvel MTG set to include Commander precon decks. Pre-orders are live on Amazon AU now. This guide covers every confirmed product, the characters you will be playing, why this set matters, and how to approach pre-ordering from Australia.
MTG Marvel Super Heroes releases 26 June 2026. Four Commander decks are confirmed: Avengers Assemble, Wakanda Forever, Fantastic Four, and Doom Prevails. The Doom Prevails Commander Deck is pre-order live on Amazon AU now. The set introduces the Power-up mechanic and Plans enchantments. Based on IP profile, this is expected to be the highest-demand MTG Universes Beyond set of 2026. Pre-ordering Commander decks you want is recommended.
What Is MTG Marvel Super Heroes?
Marvel Super Heroes is a Universes Beyond set, meaning it features characters from a licensed IP translated into Magic card form. It is the second Marvel MTG collaboration following Marvel's Spider-Man (2025), but while the Spider-Man set was focused exclusively on the Spider-Verse, this set draws from the full Marvel comics universe: Avengers, Fantastic Four, Villains, and more.
The set is based on the original Marvel comics, not the MCU films. This is a meaningful distinction. Artwork references comic panel styles, characters appear in their classic comic designs, and the card treatments include Classic Comic art styles and Borderless Source Material cards with art drawn directly from iconic Marvel panels.
Marvel Super Heroes releases on 26 June 2026. Prerelease events run 19 to 25 June at local game stores.
Important note for Arena players: Marvel Super Heroes does not release on Magic: The Gathering Arena or Magic Online. Instead, a mechanically identical set with in-universe Magic artwork (called Through the Omenpaths 2) releases on those platforms for players who want the gameplay without the IP.

The Four Commander Decks
Commander decks are the standout product addition for this set. Wizards listened to player feedback about the Spider-Man set's lack of Commander precons and delivered four at once.
Doom Prevails (Blue/Black/Red) Face commander: Doctor Doom. Strategy: Connive for power and life drain. Supporting cast includes Loki. Connive lets you discard a card, then draw a card, and place a +1/+1 counter on the conniving creature if the discarded card was non-land. Classic villains deck. Collector's Edition features all Surge Foil cards.
Fantastic Four (White/Blue/Red/Green) Four face commanders, one for each member of the Fantastic Four: Invisible Woman, Mister Fantastic, The Thing, and Human Torch. This is the first Magic Commander deck where any of four different characters can lead the deck. The Thing has a notable ability that grows +1/+1 counters each time you cast a spell, making him a snowball threat in longer games.
Avengers Assemble (White/Blue/Red) The Avengers-focused deck with core heroes. Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and other Avengers characters are represented. The Avengers Assemble theme focuses on hero synergies and the new Plans enchantment subtype.
Wakanda Forever (Black/Green) Wakanda and T'Challa-focused deck. Specific mechanics not yet fully revealed, but confirmed Black Panther-themed gameplay.
Standard Commander Decks retail at approximately AU$100 to AU$120. Collector's Edition decks (all Surge Foil) retail at approximately AU$220 to AU$250.
New Mechanics
Power-up The headline new mechanic. Power-up is a keyword ability attached to activated abilities of specific cards. Like Exhaust, a Power-up ability can only be activated once. The twist: the cost of a Power-up ability is discounted by the mana value of spells you have cast this turn, representing characters using their full power in a climactic moment. Characters using Power-up are discounted for going all-in on a given turn.
Plans A new enchantment subtype functioning similarly to Sagas and quests. Plans care about specific sequences of events and advance through chapters as conditions are met. Doctor Doom has his own Plans card, and the Plans subtype is expected to be spread across the villain-focused portions of the set.
Classic Comic and Borderless Treatments Returning from Spider-Man. Classic Comic cards use stylised comic panel artwork. Borderless Source Material cards feature art sourced directly from iconic Marvel comic panels. These are the premium collector treatments in the set alongside traditional Surge Foil versions.
Confirmed Characters
The set covers a much broader Marvel roster than Spider-Man. Confirmed cards include:
Heroes: Captain America (Super-Soldier), Bruce Banner / The Incredible Hulk (double-faced card), Namor the Sub-Mariner, The Sentry (Golden Guardian), Quicksilver, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Villains: Doctor Doom, Attuma (Atlantean Warlord), Baron Helmut Zemo, Super-Skrull, Thunderbolts Conspiracy.
Fantastic Four: Invisible Woman, Mister Fantastic, The Thing, Human Torch.
Sagas and Events: World War Hulk Saga, The Coming of Galactus.
The full set will contain many more characters not yet revealed as of early April.
Why This Set Matters More Than Spider-Man
The Spider-Man set (2025) received a mixed reception from the MTG community. Two key complaints were: the IP felt too narrow (just Spider-Verse), and there were no Commander decks.
Marvel Super Heroes addresses both. The roster spans the full Marvel universe across multiple decades of comics. The four Commander decks at launch give players immediate entry points into the most popular MTG format. Wizards explicitly stated they listened to the Spider-Man feedback when designing this set.
The set also introduces Power-up, which is a genuinely interesting mechanic with transparent gameplay implications. Plans gives villain decks a distinct gameplay identity. Both are stronger mechanical foundations than the Spider-Man set offered.
From a pure IP standpoint, a set with Doctor Doom, Hulk, Captain America, Galactus, and the Fantastic Four covers characters with broader mass-market recognition than Spider-Verse alone.

Should You Pre-Order?
Commander Decks (Standard): Yes, if you want one. Four decks with strong thematic identities. Doom Prevails is the villain deck and likely the highest-demand individual deck. If you want Doctor Doom as a Commander or enjoy Grixis strategies, pre-ordering now locks in a price before potential stock shortages at release. The Fantastic Four deck is also likely to be popular due to the four-commanders gimmick.
Commander Decks (Collector's Edition): Yes, for the Doom Prevails deck specifically. All Surge Foil Commander deck at this price point is the premium product for Doctor Doom collectors. Pre-ordering now is the cleanest way to guarantee one.
Play Booster Display: Wait and assess. The Spider-Man set's sealed product had inconsistent market performance post-release. Marvel Super Heroes has a stronger roster and better-received design, but Universes Beyond booster boxes have variable long-term value depending on IP reception. Pre-order if you plan to draft or crack packs for fun. If you are trying to optimise value, assess post-release.
Collector Booster Box: Only if you are a dedicated collector. The premium price point and the Classic Comic / Borderless Source Material cards make these compelling for serious Marvel-MTG crossover collectors. Pull rates for specific character versions will be competitive-level scarcity.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Marvel Super Heroes on MTG Arena? No. Marvel sets are not on Arena or Magic Online. A mechanically identical but visually different set called Through the Omenpaths 2 is available for digital play.
Is the set based on the MCU films or the original comics? Original Marvel comics. The artwork and designs reference classic comic visual styles rather than film versions of the characters.
Are the four Commander decks balanced against each other? Wizards designs Commander precon decks at a broadly similar power level but does not guarantee balance. Player community power rankings for Commander precons typically emerge within a few weeks of release.
How many Commander decks should I buy? Buy the deck or decks whose colour combinations and characters appeal to you as a player. They are standalone products. Buying all four is only necessary if you want every deck in the lineup.
What is Surge Foil? Surge Foil is a premium foiling treatment used for Collector's Edition Commander decks and some Collector Booster exclusives. It features a distinctive etched foil pattern that is different from standard foil treatment.
