The Event at a Glance
Dates: Saturday May 23 and Sunday May 24, 2026
Venue: Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), Exhibition Door 10, 1 Convention Centre Place, South Wharf, Victoria 3006
Games covered: Pokemon TCG, VGC (Video Game Championships), and Pokemon GO
Format: TCG plays as Standard format. VGC uses Regulation Set I with open team lists. Day 2 players must be in venue by 8:30am AEST on Sunday May 24.
This is the fourth Regional-level event of the 2026 Oceanian circuit and the third Regional Championships proper of the season. Championship Points are awarded to finishers across all divisions.
Why Melbourne Matters for the Australian Scene
Melbourne is the largest Pokemon event running in Australia right now. It follows the Sydney Regional earlier in the 2026 season, which means players who competed in Sydney have already seen how the current meta performs under Regional pressure. Melbourne is where those lessons get applied.
For VGC players specifically, the format is Regulation Set I, a returning ruleset that was last used in an Oceanian event in May 2025. Australian players who were competitive during that period will have relevant experience to draw from.
Registration and Refund Deadlines
Important: Competitor refunds are available through 11:59pm AEST Sunday May 17, 2026, which is this weekend. After that date, refunds drop to 60% through May 17 and become unavailable after that.
If you have registered but cannot attend, action any refund request now before the deadline closes.

The TCG Meta Going into Melbourne
The current Standard format runs through the Extradimensional Crisis set releases. Following Sydney, the established top decks have had an additional week to be refined. Expect the field in Melbourne to be tighter and more focused than Sydney.
Key cards worth having: if you are buying singles for Melbourne specifically, focus on staples that have proven tournament results from Sydney and recent international events rather than speculative picks.
Singles for the current Standard meta are available at our eBay store with Australian shipping.
Championship Points and the Road to Worlds
Melbourne awards Championship Points (CPs) to finishers based on attendance. The more players who register, the higher the CP payouts at each placement. CPs from Melbourne count toward the 2025-2026 season qualification for Pokemon World Championships.
If you are chasing Worlds qualification or Day 2 invites for future events, Melbourne's CP haul is significant. Australia has historically had competitive representation at Worlds, the 2025 World Cup saw Team Australia reach the finals.
Getting There
MCEC is located in South Wharf, easily accessible by tram from the Melbourne CBD. Tram routes along Flinders Street connect directly to the South Wharf precinct. Paid parking is available at the venue.
Accommodation note: May long weekend accommodation in Melbourne books fast. If you have not sorted accommodation yet, act now.
