Origins: What's in the Set
Origins established the entire foundation of Riftbound. Every card type, every keyword ability, and every game phase was introduced here. There are no prerequisites; the set is designed to be understood without knowledge of later sets.
Card count: 298 cards in the main set, numbered up to 298. Overnumbered variants are numbered above 298 and feature exclusive artwork from Riot's own artists. The total card pool including variants is larger than 298.
Champions: Origins launched with 27 founding champions across all Domains. The 12 main champions each have a standard version plus an Alternate Art version featuring a different League skin with a hexagonal foil gem. These Alternate Art versions pull at approximately two per box of 24 packs.
Notable champions by playstyle:
- Jinx leads aggressive, fast-attacking decks that pressure opponents from the first turn. Her Chosen Champion unit Jinx (Loose Cannon) pairs with her Legend for early momentum.
- Viktor is the control champion, built around careful card sequencing, delayed payoffs, and outlasting opponents rather than racing.
- Ahri is the flexible midrange option, built around recall mechanics that let you reuse high-impact units and spells. She rewards players who plan multiple turns ahead.
- Darius is a straight-line damage finisher suited to builds that want consistent offensive pressure.
- Lee Sin focuses on mobility and interaction.
- Caitlyn features ranged mechanics.
The full list of 27 champions spans aggro, control, and midrange archetypes across the Domain system.
Pack and Box Contents
Each Origins booster pack contains 14 cards, broken down as follows: seven commons, three uncommons, two flex slots (at minimum Rare rarity), one foil card of any rarity, and one Rune or token card. This structure means every pack contains at least two Rares.
A booster box contains 24 packs, guaranteeing roughly two Alternate Art champion versions per box. Overnumbered cards pull at approximately one per three boxes. Signature Overnumbered cards (with the artist's foil signature in the serial number) pull at approximately one per 30 boxes.

Origins in the Current Competitive Format
Origins cards remain fully legal in all Riftbound formats alongside Spiritforged and Unleashed. Several Origins champions are still prominent in competitive play, including Jinx (aggro), Viktor (control), and Ahri (midrange). This matters for collectors and buyers: demand for competitive Origins singles remains consistent rather than declining as newer sets release, which is a healthier sign for the game's long-term health than early sets becoming unplayable quickly.
Key Origins Epic cards that slot into competitive builds hold value accordingly. Use the Market page at /market to check which Origins singles are moving in the AU market.
Origins: Sealed Product or Singles?
The case for buying singles over sealed product in Origins is strong for most player profiles.
If you want to play a specific champion archetype, buying the Champion Deck to start and then supplementing with targeted singles is almost always cheaper than opening booster boxes to pull the cards you need. The pack structure guarantees commons and uncommons in quantities most players don't need.
If you are building a complete collection across all 298 cards, a mix of box-opening (for bulk commons and uncommons) plus targeted singles purchases (for specific Rares, Epics, and Overnumbered cards) is typically the most cost-effective approach.
Compare the current expected value of an Origins box against the cost of buying specific singles using the EV Calculator at /tools.

The C3 Take
Origins is the set that the entire game is built on. Every mechanic, every Domain, and every playstyle foundation comes from here. Whether you're starting out or completing a collection, understanding Origins is not optional. The practical reality for Australian buyers is that Origins is still accessible, Champion Decks are still at RRP, and the set has not rotated. That combination will not last indefinitely, particularly as Vendetta and Radiance arrive later in 2026 and shift the meta. Origins is an entry point that is still open. It will not always be.
