What Is Riftbound?
Riftbound is Riot Games' official physical trading card game based on the League of Legends universe. It launched in 2025 and has been building a player base in Australia, particularly among existing League of Legends players who are making the transition from the digital game to a physical card game.
The game uses a champion-based format where each player builds a deck centred around a League of Legends champion card. Champions have unique abilities that reflect their in-game counterparts, which gives the game a strong appeal for existing League players. You will recognise Jinx, Vi, Caitlyn, Jayce, and other champions from the Runeterra universe in the card designs.
Riftbound has several structural advantages over many newer TCG entrants. Riot Games has a massive existing player base through League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. The Arcane Netflix series has expanded the Runeterra IP's reach well beyond the gaming audience. And Riot has significant resources to support organised play infrastructure in Australia.
What Is Vendetta?
Vendetta is the next major Riftbound set, releasing 31 July 2026. Full set details are still emerging ahead of the release date, but based on the Riftbound release pattern, Vendetta is expected to introduce new champions, expand the existing faction system, and add new archetypes to the competitive format.
For Australian players, 31 July is the date to mark. Amazon AU will have Vendetta product available from this date. Local game stores with Riftbound allocations will also have stock, and some stores may run launch events or prerelease-style sealed events around the release weekend.
Is Riftbound Worth Getting Into?
Honest assessment for Australian players:
The case for getting in now: Riftbound is still in its early growth phase in Australia. Getting in early on a TCG with strong IP backing and a well-resourced publisher means you are building a collection while card prices are relatively accessible, before the game potentially becomes significantly more popular. The League of Legends player base in Australia is substantial, and as more of them become aware of the card game, demand for competitive singles tends to increase.
The case for waiting: If you are already committed to two or three other TCGs, adding Riftbound in July when Pokemon Pitch Black and Lorcana Attack of the Vine are also releasing in the same month is a meaningful budget commitment. There is also the standard risk with any newer TCG that the organised play ecosystem takes time to develop to the level of Pokemon or MTG in Australia.
The bottom line: If you are a League of Legends player who has been curious about Riftbound, Vendetta is a reasonable entry point. A starter set or a single booster box to try the game is a low-risk buy. If you are a TCG-first player evaluating whether to add Riftbound to your rotation, watch the community response to Vendetta in August before committing to a booster box.
Prime Day and Riftbound
Vendetta releases on 31 July, 18 days after Prime Day ends. Prime Day is not relevant to buying Vendetta product. However, if you want to buy earlier Riftbound sets to build your collection before Vendetta drops, check Amazon AU during Prime Day (7 to 13 July) for any deals on existing Riftbound sealed product. Existing sets available before Vendetta may see a small Prime Day discount as Amazon moves inventory before the new set arrives.
Best value pick: Riftbound Vendetta starter set at launch If you are new to Riftbound, start with a starter set or two-player starter pack rather than a booster box. Starter sets give you a playable foundation and let you understand the game before investing in sealed boosters. Vendetta starter product will be available on Amazon AU from 31 July.
